Hi all. So I hear the hilux diff is a good conversion / upgrade for ra28 celica's and alike? Can anybody give me some insight into this please.

I went through Keysbough diffs On the mainland. They shorten it to fit your Celica, Plus weld all the brackets to bolt in specs. You can choose your ratio and you have a choice of the hilux drum brake or Commodore disc brakes. again an expensive option but you get a warranty. I think it was about two grand.

Cheers. So there is a lot of work needed to the diff itself then? In which way do they shorten it? I want something that is going to handle the 1ggte.

There is lots of different types of hilux diff all different widths. the older Hilux's are narrower, There is one model that is the right width, but it is not as strong as the newer ones, thinner axles. The newer ones have the thicker axles, you can tell this by the number of splines on the axle. To shorten the diff they remove the brakes and axles and cut the axle tubes and re weld to length, on the diff to shorten the outer casting. But to shorten the axles they cut the spline end off, to length, then machine the spline back into the axles. It would cost a fare bit to to that at a machine shop. That's why I went with Keysbough diffs because it was the better option.

Ian Weatherhead is a master, aint seen him in years tho. I have a bloke here at work that has done many diffs in the past. not sure what he charges.
