hi guys, Im running a standard 2t, but I want to put something fast in. I have been thinking about three engines that people have told me about, 3sge beams, commodore 3.8l v6, or lexus v8. I don't know what to go with or which is better and is possible. the dream is a lexus v8 but I don't know how much work is involved. at the moment im moving towards the commodore v6 because of the size, weight, and the availability of parts, plus a supercharger kit would go a treat. if anybody has any information or know of people doing these engine conversions, please help me out. plus and conversions that require new diffs, brakes, etc would be helpful

I've heard it gets quite expensive if your looking at going manual with the 1uz because its about $500 for bellhousing $1500 gbox (r154) and about a grand for the clutch and flywheel, thats just roughly though if u want auto it would be a good conversion considering you may go the commy option which will most likely be auto.
the beams is a great engine and is probably my pick of the 3 as it will keep the car light. Evans car flys and that has a 1.6 litre 4age
other engines to consider might be a 1jzgte or 2jzge as there very cheap. I saw a complete 1jzgte the other week selling for around $500 with turbos ecu and wiring. 2jz's are around $500-800 and u can slap a w57/8 behind them which keeps costs down also.
the beams will probably sit right at home in a 1st gen.
thats my 2 cents it may not be accurate but thats some food for thought

Beams are a great engine. nice and light. Most of the bigger engines will more than likely turn your car into a lead tipped arrow. I settled for a 1ggte for my car, still quite light, bolts in with minimal modification, and can churn out big HP when done Correctly. My mate has recently got 315 hp out of his, running only 8 pound.

thanks guys for the posts and links. after looking at the threads on '1st Gen Celica' about the 3sge beams. I reckon that's the engine I will look at putting in. I have decided after this year finishes, I will be getting a half cut car shipped over.
I found this video of a guy that put a 3sge in his killer lift back celica, he says he had to weld in the altezza gearbox tunnel.
it will be a big job but lucky I have a good welder

Cheers mike for the comments. I don't think my car flys! what makes my car quick is the suspension and big brakes, a well set up car with low HP will always be quicker than a car with poor suspension and brakes with big HP. Its best if you do all the suspension and brakes first. big HP is nothing without the matching setup.
My car is running a dead stock 4AGE 1.6 and is putting out 67hp at the rear wheels. This is a crap HP figure, any of the engine talked about here will pump out twice this figure in standard form. It is the the LSD, urathane bushes, heavy duty springs, R&P steering, and good shocks that make my car handle and blow those big supras out of the water. and maybe I have the balls to drive my car at the limit
Cheers guys happy modifing.
P.S. 3sge all the way.

Well put Evan. A lot of people are hell bent on HP. If your car has no handle factors, its useless. Unless you want to just go in a straight line. My vrx lancer smashes my mates commodore on the road out to Orford. It sticks to the road like nobody's business. My mate with the 1ggte hilux has no handle factor. But in a straight line, Its a monster.

my dream celica is a monster with the handling of a wrx, but with a 3sge beams with a six speed behind, I would love it to handle like a god but first priority is something with more go then the old 2t.
I have been wondering about power steering. I have heard you can get the power steering out of a ke70, but I don't know how that would go with a beams motor because it's quite tall

I have read a thread, I think it might be the one I posted up the top of this thread about the 3sge, He is putting rack and pinion steering in his car. He had to modify the sump a bit and make up a custom engine cross member and it all fits under the standard bonnet.
Your best to do a lot of reading up on threads like, 1st Gen Celica and Toymods they are great sources of info. there is alway some one somewhere that has done it. If not just ask question and someone will have an answer.

I personally think this is committing a sin, Nissan in Toyota, thats all kinds of wrong. don't get me wrong the SR20 is a fantastic engine, but there is the 3s gte they were a great engine and Toyota. Also heaps easier than the SR20 to fit in your car.

They did come in rear wheel drive. They where the twin spark and they where in '80's Toyotas. It's getting old now but it is still a great engine

it seems like to much work for me. I really don't know what engine to put it. I was talking to a guy today who had a black ta22 in k&d car park. he told me that ta22 max is 1.6l, any more fire walls have to be cut and all sorts of stuff. Im not that experienced at cutting cars apart to make engines fit. I really want a turbo motor. I am now thinking on the idea of a 4age. I believe 4agze are the turboed or supercharged model.

well in that case put a 13b turbo in and you will have stupid amounts of power and be under 1.6 litres size and it would be amazing

could you put a 13b turbo on any 4age or does it have to be a 4agze and have it come with it?

evan i think your thinking of a 3tgte?
the KnD carpark guy is pulling your leg. you could fit many engines in without any firewall chopping.

Like a 1GGTE or 1GGZE. Sorry. I just love these engines. I was checking out a Corona online with over 400 RWKW. Crazy.......doing high 8 second passes.
