Hey I'm wondering about putting a sr20det into an ra28 celica
Would it be a straight swap, sr20 motor and box straight in, or would there be cutting and shutting??
Also to get registered it would need breaks updated any recommendations?
Any other conversions would be helpfull and appreciated

First off. Ra28 - Awesome. Updated brakes is always a good idea with an engine update. I have heard of these engines being used. Unsure of how straight forward the conversion is. Other engines in the Toyota family are a good idea. 4age, 1jz, 2 jz, 1gg, etc. Most of them come natural, super charged, or turbo. The good thing about the Ra28 is the engine bay is a good length to fit longer engine's. 2jz etc. Im fitting a 1ggte in my Ra28, they fit very well, only have to modify / massage the sump to fit the steering. Ive seen them with 1jzgte also, a lot more work, but a sweet engine. A good gear box option for Toyota engines are W55, W57 or the strong as an ox W58

I am going to do the same conversion with my ta22.
I went to gt garage and they suggested a lot. The engine will hit the steering box so you need a ke70 cross member and steering rack, i suggest you use the latest sr20. S15 i believe (could be wrong) as the earlier have problems with wearing out valves. The gear stick is further back. So hand brakes needs to be moved. I will be using a hilux diff and either pajero brakes and i am not quite shore of suspension yet. Will you turbo?

If you use a KE70 cross member in a TA22 you will need to shorten it, modify the mounting holes and I think it needs spaces to drop it down to get the right geometry for the steering rack so you don't get bump steer. RA28 it doesn't need shortening but it does need the spaces.

does your ta22 have original cross member with ke70 rack and pinion? Yes I cut the mounting brackets off the KE cross member and welded them on to the original TA22 cross member.

might not even need to change the cross member then because the sr20 is a front sump engine. the only reason people use ke70 cross members with sr20 is so the steering box doesn't hit but if you could weld the ke rack on, it should be fine. wouldn't be to hard for you jake been a welder and all
