Hey guys
I have had my 4agze Ta22 for a bit over 2 years now. When i first got it you could not drive for more than 5 minutes without getting high on petrol fumes. Since then a nasty dent and gap has been fixed in the boot and it is better (i think it was creating a vacuum straight up the speaker holes and into the cabin space) but lets just say i wouldn't wanna drive to a conference in it and be sitting near people all day.
There is a surge tank in the boot with a fuel pump and i can see one of the hoses is leaking and the base of the tank is a bit mucky.
Do i need to have a surge tank with the 4agze in the ta22? If not i think i will remove it. Can it be relocated easily?
Any suggestions appreciate?
cheer

On top of the fuel tank in my ta22 is a breather that didn't have the fumes going out of the car. I put a hose in that lets the fumes cone out from under the car. I don't know if there is anything like that in a 72 as the fuel tank is in the car. But maybe you could replace all the leaking parts or move the surge tank under the car. Evan would be the one to talk to

hmm hadn't thought of checking the breather. Might check that out too. I did a bit of a read up and a lot of people seem to have trouble with the smell from the "in boot surge tanks" So before replacing the parts might look into relocating or removing for another setup. Thanks for the info though, will check what that breather is doing next chance i get

I have a similar setup, and yes you do need a surge tank. Without it you will get fuel starvation going around corners, and this will ruin your fuel pump very quickly. I have a fuel smell too. I have been told that high pressure fuel pumps smell and that they should been mounted under the car or in a sealed box. I would check the breather too as mine was broken.
