Hey guys, Wondering if anyone has some advice they would be happy to share... I have a 4agze powered TA22. The ECU is currently an aftermarket Microtech LT10S. To be straight forward, I don't like it. Had a lot of idle problems early on and now even after pro automotive in Moonah have looked at it, it had a rough idle and revs completely die on cold start. Surfing the net i have found a few... Autotronic Adaptronic Haltech Has anyone had any experience with these ECU's and better yet behind a 4agze or something similar? just wanting the Celica to run nicely and not die everytime i put the clutch in up to the first 10 mins of driving. Have been using the handbrake a bit for the last bit of a stop just to keep the revs on coming into t junctions etc haha... any advice appreciated cheers Kolby

G'day Kolby,
I would take the car to GT Garage on lampton ave Moonah. Have a chat to the guys their they are really helpful and have fixed a few of my problems. As you know I have a 4Age and they where really quick at diagnosing the problem, mine is running stock ECU. They love nutting out problems like this. It sounds like the cold start idle is not working. This bumps up the revs on a cold start to stop the car from stalling when stopping at intersections. It will then drop back to normal idle when the engine is up to temp. Has your ECU got a cold start program, it might be that it hasn't had one programed in.
Cheers Evan.

Or try DIY auto tune in the states (just type DIY auto tune into google) they can sell you what you need at a fraction of the cost and they are extremely helpful

thanks Evan and Stoney. Will check out the website and see what i might be up for. Then if not GT garage sounds good. So the microtech ecu should be capable of idling and running fine as a every day driver? Ive heard some people say they run like "pigs" on the road but are good for a track tune? If i dont have to change ecu then that will save lots of money and i might be able to get my wheels

Hi Kolby,
Seems like you've already found your answer but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in in favour of a Haltech. I've just installed one in my TA22 and quite frankly I'm glad I went with it over Microtech or the other competitors. I've found its compatibility with sensors and other peripherals to be satisfactory and the price/function ratio to be pretty good too. I think the biggest issue with ECU's is the availability of people willing to tune them. You'll often find tuners only work with specific brands and will turn down jobs that aren't within their areas of experience. I have not had this problem anywhere with the Haltech; before I bought it I called around the 10-15 local tuners in my area and 13 of them preferred to work with Haltech.
I have heard that Microtechs have a rough tune and are better suited to track use- but I have never used one and this is second hand information. Although judging by the amount of times I've heard people say this, it could have some element of truth to it. I decided to play it safe and go with the tried and trusted Haltech, the only other brand I would have considered for the money would be Adaptronic.
For the amount of money you spend on a Megasquirt 3 Pro for (plus another $80 shipping) you can just about have your choice of an Australian made entry to mid level ECU. My advice would be to not cheap out on management and invest in a Haltech PS1000 which is probably one of the most widely used performance ECU's on the market.
I am biased however as I do own a Haltech myself, and of course I'm trying to justify the amount of money I spent on it. That said, a new one can be found for $800 if you look hard enough.
Cheers, Frank

Thanks Szeitszam,
Still looking into the ECU's. Thanks for the information. Haltech for 800 sounds awesome. I can only seem to find ones for $2000ish... Must be looking in the wrong place.
cheers

You should be able to grab one off egay for that much mate. If not there's a number of Australian stores that sell them for around that price. If not just look on US based websites and have it posted over, it's tiny and light so it should be real cheap.
Cheers Frank

im going to put this out here and say that adaptronic is by far the best ecu i have seen for some time, i am currently using and e420d, the only sensor ive added to my car is an air temp sensor on my intake, every sesnor is compatable, it can be used as street or track, im using it for a track but ive seen many that can use it on the road, my computer pakage was a total of 1,500 that was with the extra sensors. ill never look back at buying it, ive been really pleased, ive had alot of contact with the builder of the ecu's andy and i can ask him questions through emails and he has helped me greatly.
